Despite his successful stint with Heartland, Bernard Boboye, a two-time Nigeria Professional Football League champion, has initiated a legal action against his former club, Heartland, over an outstanding debt of N19 million.
In November 2023, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma ordered the reinstatement of coach Christian Obi, leading to Boboye’s dismissal as Heartland’s head coach.
During his tenure, Boboye led the team to three wins and one draw in seven matches, turning around the club’s fortunes.
However, despite his success, he was terminated without receiving his outstanding wages.
Boboye told Flashscore that he has been patient, waiting for almost a year for the club to settle the debt.
He claimed that Heartland had settled debts owed to former players and coaches, but he excluded them.
Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Musa Gusau had promised Heartland a two-to-three-month waiver, while Coach Emmanuel Amuneke advised Boboye to hold off on taking action.
However, Boboye has lost patience and decided to proceed with legal action.
“It’s unfair that I’ve been unable to support my family and manage my medical bills, as my former employers have effectively put my life on hold for the past 11 months,” Boboye said.
Efforts to get Heartland management’s reaction were unsuccessful.
