Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman stole the show as Atlanta defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in their UEFA Champions League encounter on Wednesday night.

Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, Shakhtar’s temporary UCL home, the Arena Auf Schalke in Germany, hosted the match.

Lookman’s impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match award. He provided the cross for Berat Djimisiti’s opening goal in the 21st minute and scored his first-ever UCL goal just before halftime, firing into the bottom corner.

Raoul Bellanova added a third goal three minutes into the second half, sealing a comfortable victory for Atalanta.

Lookman was substituted after 60 minutes, allowing him to rest on his laurels.

This win marked Atalanta’s first full points in the UCL this season, following a goalless draw with Arsenal in their opening group match.

Lookman’s goal-scoring feat mirrors that of compatriot Victor Boniface, who achieved a similar milestone a day earlier.

Lookman’s impressive start to the season continues, with five goals and two assists in seven matches for Atlanta and the Super Eagles.

His performance will boost Nigeria’s hopes for the upcoming international break.

Atalanta’s victory propels them to second place in Group B, behind leaders Arsenal.

They will look to build on this momentum in their next UCL fixture.
