Just in: Edo governor-elect, Okpebholo, deputy, get certificates of return

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificates of Return to Edo State’s Governor-elect, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy, Rep. Dennis Idahosa.
Dignitaries, including APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), attended the ceremony on Thursday at INEC headquarters.
Other dignitaries were the court-reinstated Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, Sen. Matthew Uroghide, retired Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe, Sen. Francis Alimikhena, Rep. Ogbeide Ihama, Rep. Omosede Igbinedion, and Blessing Agbonmhere, among others.
On Saturday, September 21, 2024, INEC declared Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, the winner of the hotly contested Edo State governorship election, Persecondnews recalls.
Okpebholo secured victory with 291,667 votes, surpassing his closest rivals, Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with 247,274 votes and the Labour Party’s (LP) Olumide Akpata (SAN) with 22,763 votes.
