Students of the University of Benin in Edo State who were trapped in the three-storey hostel building near the institution have been successfully rescued.
The building in Ekosodin, a community primarily home to university students, collapsed on Saturday, trapping numerous students.
However, a report just reaching Persecondnews confirmed that all the
trapped occupants have been evacuated by emergency responders.
A source said: “Everyone trapped has been rescued, and an excavator is on its way to remove the rubble and the remaining part of the building.
“EdoSEMA and other rescue teams, including the fire service, are on ground. We thank God. Kind regards, always.”
The building collapsed after a downpour that began in the early hours of Saturday and lasted for several hours, according to reports.
A student said injured students have been rushed to the hospital.
At the time this report was filed, the university management had not issued any official statement on the incident.
