Wumi Aloba: Life makes no sense without Mohbad

Wumi Aloba, widow of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has opened up about her struggles following the tragic loss of her husband.

Mohbad, who passed away at the age of 27 in 2023, left behind his wife and their young son, Liam.

A year after his untimely death, Wumi has shared a heartfelt message reflecting on the immense void his absence has left in her life.

Wumi, in what appeared as her first official statement since her husband’s passing, poured out her emotions, expressing how difficult life has been without her soulmate by her side.

She described Mohbad as the “husband of my youth” and her “best friend,” lamenting how much she and their son, Liam, miss him. “Ilerioluwa mi, husband of my youth, my best friend!

It’s been a year since you left me and our Liam in this cold world. It’s been so hard. I miss you so much. Liam misses you too. I wish you were here to see him; you would have been an incredible father,” she wrote.

Wumi conveyed what she described as “the unbearable pain” she has been living with since Mohbad’s passing.

She revealed that she still struggles to accept his death, hoping every day that it is a nightmare from which she will eventually wake up.

“I still don’t know how I’ve survived without you. God, I wish you were here every single day—every millisecond of the day. Your passing brought me unbearable pain, but it has also shaped me,” she confessed.

Wumi went on to reflect on the impact her husband’s death has had on her personal growth.

She admitted that while the pain has been overwhelming, it has also forced her to learn and adapt to a life she never imagined living without him.

She, however, remains haunted by the reality of his absence.

“I’ve learned so much, and I’m still learning. I’ll never be okay with you not being here; it messes with my head,” she added.

The grief-stricken widow also expressed how difficult it has been to move forward without the man with whom she had envisioned a lifetime of shared dreams and aspirations.

“Oko mi, we had so many plans together, and you had so much more to give to this world. It hurts deeply to know that all our dreams, everything you worked so hard for, are now gone with you,” Wumi wrote, revealing the heartache of losing not only her husband but also the future they had planned together.

A widow torn between conflicts

However, her grief has been further complicated by the ongoing tension between Mohbad’s parents.

Wumi is torn between the animosity that developed between his mother and father in the wake of her husband’s death.

Both sides have made headlines in public disputes, with accusations and counteraccusations surrounding the circumstances of his death, leaving Wumi caught in the middle.

This family rift has added layers of distress to Wumi’s already overwhelming grief.

She has been dragged into the issues, with both families vying for control over decisions related to Mohbad’s legacy, and disagreements about the cause of his death further fuelling the tensions.

“It’s been a year of pain, and on top of that, I’ve had to deal with the family drama,” she lamented.

The constant tug-of-war has left Wumi emotionally exhausted as she tries to shield herself and her son from the discord while mourning her husband.

“All I want is peace for myself and Liam, but I keep getting pulled into battles I never asked for,” Wumi shared.

Despite the turmoil, Wumi noted that she remained focused on keeping Mohbad’s memory alive through their son, Liam.

She acknowledged that while life has been difficult, she continues to hold onto the love and memories they shared.

“It’s been hard, but I have to keep going for Liam. I know you would have wanted me to stay strong.”
