Following the threat of a strike, federal government officials are currently meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Abuja.

The university lecturers’ union had threatened to down tool over the alleged government’s failure to meet its demands.

Persecondnews recalls that the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced last week that the government would meet with ASUU representatives on Monday.

However, the scheduled meeting between the two parties did not take place on Monday.

No explanation was given for the postponement.

The meeting is crucial in averting a potential nationwide strike in public universities.

ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, led the union’s delegation to the meeting.

The meeting is also attended by high-ranking ministry officials, led by the minister.

Other members of the ASUU delegation are former past presidents, led by the immediate past president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi.
