The Patriots, a group of eminent Nigerians, stormed the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday for President Bola Tinubu, calling for a people’s constitution for the country.
The Patriots, led by Chief Emeka Anyaoku, a former Commonwealth Secretary General, also advised President Tinubu and the state governors to dialogue with the leaders of the ongoing protests in the country.
Anyaoku, speaking with journalists after the meeting, warned security agencies to avoid using lethal weapons on the protesters.
Anyaoku disclosed that the Patriots also urged President Tinubu to send an executive bill to the National Assembly on the new constitution and to convene a National Constituent Assembly that will draft a new constitution for the country.
The elder statesman said the Constituent Assembly would consist of individuals elected by the people on a non-party basis from each of the 36 states of the federation, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
He said the new constitution should make provision for a referendum.
