A gas explosion has sparked a fire at a Mobil Oil Company petrol station located near the Lagos Airport Hotel in Ikeja, leaving several people injured and vehicles destroyed.
The uppermost floor of a nearby two-storey building was also affected.
The explosion occurred at 10:49 a.m. on Thursday while a gas tanker was discharging its cargo into a surface storage tank, which abruptly burst into flames.
The fire, however, has been successfully extinguished and brought under control.
The explosion sparked widespread panic, prompting residents and workers in the vicinity to flee for their lives and seek shelter.
Fortunately, according to eyewitnesses and emergency responders, there were no fatalities, although several individuals sustained injuries.
Prior to the arrival of emergency medical services, private vehicles and minibuses (Korope) transported some of the injured to hospitals.
Mr. Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on his “X” handle, shared an update: “Fire is out already. Thanks.”
In a post on X, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 10:49 AM today, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to a fire incident at the Mobil filling station, Allen Roundabout, near Airport Hotel.
