American legendary rapper Snoop Dogg will be among the torchbearers carrying the Olympic flame in the final stretch before the opening ceremony of the Paris Games on Friday.
France will host the Paris 2024 Olympics, with the official opening ceremony set for July 26 and running until August 11.
Snoop, 52, took to his Instagram page to confirm his selection as a torch bearer.
The US pop culture icon will carry the Olympic flame through the suburb of Saint-Denis, north of Paris, which is home to the Stade de France Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Village.
Dogg will collaborate with NBCUniversal to cover the Olympics.
He will provide “regular reports” and “his unique take on what’s happening in Paris.”
Speaking on his selection as a correspondent, Snoop described the Olympics as “a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness.”
“We are going to have some amazing competitions, and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It is going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned,” he said.
Persecondnews reports that Paris 2024 will mark the first time in the history of the Olympic Summer Games that the Opening Ceremony is held outside a stadium.
Instead of familiar images of athletes marching out along an athletic track, guests and viewers will be treated to a colourful river parade through the heart of the French capital.
The Seine, the city’s main water artery, will substitute for the traditional track, the quays will become spectator stands, and the setting sun reflecting off famous Parisian landmarks will provide the backdrop for the event.
This outdoor concept also makes Paris 2024 the largest opening ceremony in terms of audience and geographical coverage.
