Former US President Donald Trump has extended his condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, a volunteer firefighter who was killed in a failed assassination attempt on his life during his campaign at Pennsylvania.
Trump, visibly sad, paid tribute to Comperatore’s bravery by walking over to a fire gear display and leading a moment of silence in his honour.
On July 13, 2024, Trump, the presumed Republican presidential nominee at the time, sustained gunshot wounds to his right ear while speaking at a campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania, according to Persecond News.
Following a series of loud noises resembling gunshots, Secret Service agents abruptly escorted Donald Trump off stage at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The sudden loud bangs and screams sent the crowd into a panic, prompting Trump to calmly remark, “Let me get my shoes,” as security agents rushed to assist him.
Trump appeared to be in distress, clutching his right ear and showing visible blood.
They swiftly escorted the 78-year-old former president into an SUV, where he once again raised his fist to the crowd in defiance.
The incident has sparked concerns about potential violence and political tensions in the lead-up to the November election between Trump and President Joe Biden.
In a poignant address at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, former President Donald Trump began his presidential nominating speech with a heart-wrenching recounting of the shooting at his rally last week that left him injured and claimed another life.
“As you already know, the assassin’s bullet came within a quarter of an inch of taking my life,” Trump stated.
“So many people have asked me what happened. Tell us what happened, please, and therefore I will tell you exactly what happened, and you’ll never hear it from me a second time, because it’s actually too painful to tell.”
For over ten minutes, Trump detailed the harrowing events of the attack, which occurred on a “warm, beautiful day in the early evening in Butler Township in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”
His vivid account captivated the audience, painting a sombre picture of the tragic incident.
