The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a ban on all protests and processions by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).
SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, issued a statement on Tuesday announcing the prohibition of the Ashura procession and all other forms of protests by the IMN.
Adeh emphasized that the command will rigorously enforce the ban and prosecute anyone who defies it, without exception.
She reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring law and order in the FCT.
The statement reads: “According to the intelligence we have gathered, members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shi’ite, are planning to hold a protest/procession to commemorate the 2024 Islamic calendar day of Ashura.
“In the past, the group’s processions, protests, and other activities have ended violently.
“As a result, the Commissioner of Police has banned their activities and ordered the arrest of anyone who violates this order.”
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command has also issued a statement prohibiting all forms of protests and processions by the Shiite group, in accordance with the federal capital territory’s stance, to maintain public order and prevent potential disturbances.
