As the Supreme Court rules on the contentious issue of local government autonomy on Thursday, the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has urged its members across the country to observe a national day of prayer and fasting.

The union is seeking divine intervention for a favourable judgement that will grant financial independence to local governments, which they believe would benefit their employees.

NULGE National President, Comrade Ambali Olatunji, made the call on Wednesday.

He said that a favourable court ruling on autonomy would pave the way for effective governance, enhanced security, and accelerated development in local governments across the nation.

Olatunji said, “Good afternoon, distinguished NEC member. As you are aware, court ruling will take place tomorrow at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

“The leadership wants to enjoin all NEC members, both Christians and Muslims, and all LG workers to declare tomorrow a day of fasting so that we will fast and pray for victory to be ours.

“Local government autonomy is an idea whose time has come.”
