Barely a month after deploying Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) delivery installations in all its filling stations across the country, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has announced that CNG can now be purchased at all its retail outlets.

The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Olufemi Soneye, said in a terse post on his official X handle on Thursday that the purchase of CNG is available to cater for both cars and trucks.

He said: “We are pleased to announce that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is now available for purchase at our location, catering to both cars and trucks.”

Persecondnews reports that to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, President Bola Tinubu rolled out the CNG initiative to deliver cheaper, safer, and more climate-friendly energy to Nigerians.

The use of CNG as a transport fuel is a mature technology used globally, as it is the cleanest burning fuel in terms of nitroxide and soot emissions.

CNG passenger vehicles emit 5–10 percent less CO2 than comparable gasoline-powered passenger vehicles, even when used to power passenger cars and city buses.

CNG costs one-fifth the price of super gasoline, resulting in substantial fuel savings.

Also, CNG produces less exhaust emissions, and as a result, harmful emissions such as carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and nitrous oxide (N2O) are generally reduced by as much as 95% when compared to gasoline-powered vehicles.
