More than 1,500 participants will take part in the 19th edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG), which kicks off in Abuja from April 21–27, LOC chairperson, Dr. Ifeyinwa Mojo-Eyes, has said.

At a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Dr. Mojo-Eyes, said the aim of the games, in line with the theme “Empower Wellness, Increase Productivity,” is to promote well-being among participants and enhance productivity in the workplace.

The participants will compete for honors in football, volleyball, basketball, golf, tennis, table tennis and squash.

Others are badminton, chess, scrabble, athletics, swimming and 8 ball pool.

Trophies, medal and gifts will be awarded to the participants at the end of the Games.

According to Persecondnews, this is the first time the games will take place after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mojo-Eyes promised a breathtaking series of games, with 13 oil and gas companies competing in 13 events.

She said: “The first edition of the game was in 1996 at Eket, with only two companies participating (Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and Exxon Mobil) in two games.

“But today we are glad to announce that we have 13 companies participating in 13 games, which is a huge milestone, and we are also collaborating with the Ministry of Sports to ensure the games meet global best practices.

“The essence of the game for us is to strengthen bonds within the workplace and also promote healthy living, which will also reduce spending money on healthcare.”
