The police in Ibadan paraded no fewer than 21 suspected Yoruba Nation agitators on Monday, including a female and two elderly men in their sixties who had invaded the Oyo State Government Secretariat on Saturday.
Parading the suspects, Police Commissioner Adebola Hamzat said: “We apprehended these individuals for their involvement in the forceful invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat on Saturday.”
Joint security operatives at the Secretariat arrested the suspected agitators as they attempted to seize control of the State House of Assembly after hoisting Yoruba Nation flags.
Hamzat took the opportunity to send a stern warning to other individuals with criminal intent to leave the state.
He said the offence they committed is a treasonable felony, adding that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
On media reports that some of the suspects were killed during the invasion, Hamzat clarified that there were no casualties during the gunfire exchange but that an officer of the State Amotekun Security Corps was injured.
