The House of Representatives has passed a bill seeking an extension of the 2023 supplementary budget.

This comes after President Bola Tinubu had asked the Green Chamber to extend the period for the implementation of the capital component of the 2023 budget from March 31, 2024, to June 30, 2024.

During plenary on Wednesday, March 20, the Speaker, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, read a letter from the President making the request.

In the letter, President Tinubu also asked the House to extend the implementation of the supplementary appropriation act from March 31, 2024, to June 30, 2024.

Tinubu said the extension was required to guarantee the full implementation of the two Acts’ provisions.

After reading the president’s letter, the lower legislative chamber speedily passed the bill for first, second, and third readings, after the House Chief Whip, Mr. Bello Kumo, moved a motion to the effect.

While leading the debate, Kumo said the president’s request should be granted to extend the implementation of the capital component of the budget in the interest of the country.

Persecondnews reports that, consequently, the bill was read a third time and passed.
