In a significant development aimed at bolstering bilateral relations, the governments of Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have jointly announced the resumption of visa services for Nigerian citizens travelling to the UAE, effective March 4, 2024.

This decision comes after fruitful discussions between His President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, highlighting the commitment of both nations to fostering closer ties and facilitating smoother travel arrangements.

As part of the resumption of visa services, the UAE has introduced an enhanced document verification process.

Beginning on March 4, 2024, all Nigerians applying for UAE visas must do so online through the UAE Embassy in Abuja’s dedicated platform.

This step is aimed at ensuring a seamless and efficient visa application experience for Nigerian travellers.

Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, emphasized the importance of the updated procedure, stating, “We are committed to facilitating straightforward and expedited visa applications for Nigerians.

“The introduction of the Document Verification Number is designed to enhance the integrity of our application process and ensure prompt processing for all applicants.”

Also, a joint statement by the two countries said: “Once applicants have obtained the Document Verification Number, they can proceed with their visa applications through designated travel agents. The final processing of visa applications will be completed at the Embassy of the UAE in Abuja or Lagos.

“Prospective travellers are encouraged to adhere to the guidelines provided and initiate their applications promptly to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.”
