The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr Mohammed Idris, has reacted to the recent “coup scare” in the country, describing the report as a horrible act of deception and categorically false.
He said the report is the product of the twisted imaginations of those who wish to undermine the current administration and destabilize the nation.
According to Idris, the administration will not be dissuaded or coerced into dropping the current measures intended to boost the economy and pave the road for citizens’ prosperity.
“It is now obvious that certain desperate people have turned to spreading false information in order to undermine public confidence in the administration and plant the seeds of conflict throughout the nation,” Rabiu Ibrahim, the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, said in a statement emailed to Persecondnews on Tuesday.
Idris stated that the government will use its legal authority under the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s legislation to restrain rogue activities that could jeopardize the country’s hard-won democracy and national security.
In an effort to undermine the country’s democracy, he pleaded with the public to use caution and abstain from disseminating or magnifying the false information, which is purposefully being placed on some compliant and compromised news outlets.
