The Federal Government has announced that the Port-Harcourt Refinery is gearing up to start generating two million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and 2.2 million litres of diesel daily.

Mr. Olajide Oshundun, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, said in a statement on Thursday that “the refinery is currently 80% complete.”

He said the existing refinery facility will have a production capacity of 54,000 barrels per day, and the new plant, which is in its final stages of completion, is expected to commence production by the end of the year.

The Minister of State, Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, who was on tour at the facility with labour leaders, explained that the two plants combined would have the capacity to generate 10 million litres of PMS daily.

The statement reads: “Speaking on the inspection visit to the Port-Harcourt refinery by the TUC and Federal Government delegation, the minister said reports by organised labour and the government established that the Port-Harcourt refinery is 80% complete.

“She explained that the old plant would begin with 54,000 barrels per day, which would produce two million litres of PMS and 2.2 million litres of diesel per day, while the new plant, which is currently going through its last phase of completion, would also begin production before the end of the year.

“The combined capacity of the two plants, when fully on stream, would produce 10 million litres of PMS per day.”
