No fewer than 15,033 students from public schools in Kogi State are set to benefit from the government’s free education policy, as the outgoing governor, Yahaya Bello, has procured Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for them.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Mr. Wemi Jones, announced this at a news conference in Lokoja on Tuesday.

According to him, the provision of JAMB forms is in addition to the government’s efforts to create access to education for all citizens.

“The procurement of JAMB forms and the payment of examination fees demonstrate the state’s commitment to providing quality education for all without any economic barriers.

“The initiative not only promotes equal opportunities but also encourages academic excellence among the students,” he said.

Under the free education initiative, the government aims to alleviate the financial burden on parents and guardians by covering the costs of both internal and external examination fees.

Persecond News recalls that last year, the state government paid over N497 million for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees of the 15,033 students benefiting from this programme.

The move to institutionalize this free exam fee policy is currently being considered by the Kogi State House of Assembly.

This development brings immense benefits to the students, as they will now have the opportunity to pursue higher education without worrying about the financial constraints associated with JAMB forms.
