A 65-year-old landloard, Igwe Ambrose, is to spend the rest of his life in jail for thrusting his fingers into the private parts of his tenant’s underage daughters in Lagos.

The children are of ages seven and 11 years.

The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court which handed down the verdict on Monday, gave a double life sentence to the landlord.

Justice Abiola Soladoye said the court has found Ambrose guilty of the four counts bordering on sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child beyond a reasonable doubt.

The judge held that the defendant violated Sections 135 and 261 of Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (as amended).

According to Justice Soladoye, the defendant is “a filthy old man who while ostensibly offering to assist the survivors with their school work, caressed their breasts and touched them indecently.”

She said the “survivor’s evidence had shown him to be an unreliable, dishonest, and unworthy liar.”

During the trial, the State Counsel, Mrs. Olufunke Adegoke, called four witnesses; the mother of the survivors, the IPO, who submitted five exhibits, and two survivors.

She said the defendant committed the charges at Shagari Estate in Ipaja, Lagos, between January and June of 2021.

“The children decided to open up to their mother, who then informed her husband; he thereafter confronted the defendant and the matter was reported to a police station.

“The police visited the scene and the defendant was invited to the police station where he denied the allegations against him,” she told the court.
