The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Bauchi State on Tuesday struck out the petition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Sadique Abubakar, a former Chief of Air Staff, challenging Sen. Bala Mohammed’s March governorship victory.

The three-man panel headed by Justice P.T. Kwahar, held that Abubakar’s petition lacked merit and affirmed Senator Bala Mohammed as the duly elected governor of the state.

Details of the judgment have yet to be released, Bauchi, the state capital, has been thrown into wild jubilation by the people and the PDP members.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Abubakar Y. Suleiman, the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, has congratulated the governor on the outcome of the tribunal.

He said: “I wholeheartedly congratulate my leader, my mentor, master political strategist and true servant of the people, His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad CON Kauran Bauchi on yet another landslide victory against the opposition.

“Even from the onset we were confident and unshaken that you will emerge victorious in any trial in the public or courts of justice.

“You have exceptional blessings from Almighty Allah and so you shall continue to triumph and prosper, against all odds and adversaries.”

Persecondnews recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Mohammed winner of the March 18 election with 525,280 votes while his closest rival, Sadique Abubakar of APC polled 432,272 votes.
