Sao Tome and Principe withdraws from AWCON qualifier against Super Falcons

With some of the Super Falcons players arriving the country ahead for their AWCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe, the Central African side have notified CAF of their inability prosecute the game.

The Super Falcons were billed to take on second smallest country in Africa in a two-legged tie at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos on Friday.

However, an official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed authoritatively to Persecondnews that CAF in a communique to NFF, the withdrawal of Sao Tome and Principe from the encounter.

Their withdrawal signifies that the Super Falcons will get a walkover into the second qualification round of the qualifiers where they will face the winner of the fixture between Cape Verde and Liberia.

The second-round stage is slated for November 27 and December 5, 2023.

The Super Falcons have never failed to qualify for the WAFCON tournament, winning it a record 11 times.

The Nigerian ladies finished fourth at the last edition of the competition and are seeking to go a step further at the 2024 WAFCON tournament scheduled for Morocco.
