Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, a.k.a Davido, has finally confirmed the disbursement of N230 million donations to orphanages across Nigeria, saying he has always wanted to use his platform to serve others.
Persecondnews recalls that the singer had raised over N200 million from friends and colleagues two years ago when he marked his birthday and promised to give out the money to orphanages.
With questions being raised about the disbursement of the money from fans and critics, Davido, who is currently on tour of U.S. with his “Timeless” album, said the tradition to disburse over N200 million to homes started a few years ago when his birthday was around the corner.
The singer said as part of his commitment to his “We Rise by Lifting Others” mantra, his foundation, David Adeleke Foundation (DAF) donated the sum of N237 million to orphanages throughout Nigeria.
According to him, the distribution of the funds was led by the Chairman of the DAF Distribution Committee, Mrs Titi Adebayo which saw them distribute funds to 424 orphanages, benefiting a total of 13,818 children.
“I founded the DAF with the strong desire and passion to continually assist others and create a proper framework for ongoing charitable works to benefit.
“Through this foundation, we have raised millions of naira and disbursed much-needed funds to hundreds of orphanages, significantly improving lives of countless children,” he said.
Davido said the foundation remained steadfast in its mission to uplift and support vulnerable communities across the country.
