Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio has been sworn in as the leader of the 10th National Assembly after defeating Sen. Abdulaziz Yari.
Former Senate Minority Leader, Akpabio was nominated by Sen. Ali Ndume and supported by Sen. Ishaku Abbo.
The former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State gathered 63 votes to edge out Yari who, polled 46 votes.
The voting at the red chamber in Abuja started at exactly 08:45am on Tuesday and the voting process ended at about 09:15am.
Persecondnews reports that Akpabio was sworn in as the new Senate Presidernt at about 9:45am, succeeding Dr Ahmad Lawan.
Meanwhile, Sen. Dave Umahi nominated Senator Barau as Deputy Senate President, and the clerk of the Red Chamber after seeking for further nominations, declared Barau as Deputy Senate President unopposed.
He was thereafter sworn in as the 10th National Assembly Deputy Senate President.
