Outrage as Twitter removes verification tags of Peter Obi, top Nigerian celebrities

1.1k

A Presidential Candidate and top Nigerian celebrities have been dealt a huge blow on their Microblogging platforms, otherwise known as Twitter.

Popular names such as Davido, BurnaBoy, Wizkid, Kate Henshaw among others have had their verified blue tick badges removed by Twitter on Thursday evening.

Persecondnews recalls that Elon Musk, new Twitter owner, had announced April 20 as the final date for the removal of all unsubscribed verified blue ticks.

Some celebrities insisted they would not pay the $8 requested by Twitter for those who want to retain their blue badges.

Checks by our Per Second News on Thursday showed that the verification badges on some celebrities’ accounts had been removed.

This new development may be connected to the non-payment of their verification subscription fee announced by Twitter.

Henshaw, in her reaction, said she would not pay for any blue tick verification, adding that if Musk wants to take the account, he should remove it.

Further checks also showed that the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has also lost his blue badge as of Thursday evening.
