Horror-struck residents of Akure airport community of Oba-Ile in Ondo State have yet to recover from the mysterious death of a middle-aged Pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Idahun, in the town after firing shots at a deer.
Pastor George Olusanya Omoolorun, who was on a hunting expedition in the area had shot a deer which had “Ifa” inscriptions on its body and his gun reportedly back fired killing him instantly, Persecondnews gathered.
The word “Ifa” refers to the mystical figure “Ifa or Orunmila”, regarded by the Yoruba as the deity of wisdom and intellectual development.
The deceased, who hailed from Ijan-Ekiti was said to have been in hunting business for 26 years.
The 60-year-old father of four was said to have left his home for his farm around airport road, Akure in his car where he normally hunt for bush meat.
He was said to have left his car at the entrance of the farm before embarking on the hunting expedition.
A family source, who pleaded anonymity said when the wife of the deceased waited in vain for her husband to return home on the fateful day, she became apprehensive.
“She called his phone severally without any response.
“The wife became afraid and called the deceased’s sister and some other neighbours who embarked on a search for him.
“By the time they got to the farm, they met him lying helpless on the ground with the mysterious deer, standing by his side.
“They met him in the bush with his hand held onto his body where he sustained bullet wound.
“They met the deer beside the hunter unhurt, but was caught when it tried to escape. They discovered Ifa inscriptions on the deer, ” the source said.
They later tied the live deer that was shot severally by the deceased and took it to Oba Ile Police station where it later died.
Police at the station, however, confirmed the report and that investigations are in progress to unravel the mystery.
