Social media platforms erupted in jubilation on Sunday night as Nigeria maintained its good showing at Grammy Awards as singer and songwriter, Tems clinched the coveted award for the first time.
Per Seconds News recalls that Burnaboy and Wizkid had equally bagged the award in the last two years even as Yemi Alade and others also got recognitions.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy’s hopes of adding another Grammy plaque to his award cabinet was dashed after he lost his two nominations.
He lost the Best Global Song performance for which ‘Last Last’ was nominated and Best Global Album for which ‘Love, Damini’ was also nominated.
At the 65th edition of the award, Tems set a new record for the Nigerian music industry as she beat top acts to bag her first Grammy award and also became the first female Nigerian artiste to win a Grammy award.
The singer had bagged three nominations ahead of the awards.
She won the award in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her vocal and writing contribution on the smashing hit ‘Wait For U’ by Future featuring Drake and herself, making it her first Grammy award win after four nominations.
