Just in: NDLEA busts drug kingpins escorted by “fake security agents”, impounds N5bn tramadol

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives, in a covert operation in Lagos at the weekend, busted a warehouse at Amuwo Odofin, seized millions of opioids pills and bottles worth N5 billion.

The drug cartel had two of thier kingpins overpowered and arrested by men of the agency, while they also evacuated 1, 440 capsules of Tramadol, 480 tablets of Swinol, 1,440 tablet of Rophynol and 114 litres of industrial codeine.

In a statement given to Persecondnews, Mr Femi Babafemi, the Director Media and Advocacy, confirmed the arrest of the kingpins.

“The drug cartels took the first heat on Tuesday 10th January from determined officers of the Agency who intercepted and impound consignment of loud, a strong variant of cannabis, weighing 4.878.72 kilogram, along Awolowo road Ikoyi,

“After a near fatal encounter with some suspected fake security agents escorting the drugs, the NDLEA succeeded in recovering the consignment with a white truck marked BDD 548 XX conveying it,” he said.

According to Babafemi, over three million pills of Tramadol were recovered in the raid by the agency at the warehouse.

He stated:”Three million, two hundred and sixty four thousand, six hundred and thirty ( 3,264, 330 ) pills of Tramadol, three thousand four hundred and ninety (3,490) bottles of codeine, and nine hundred and fifteen thousand (915, 000 ) capsules of pregaballin 300mg.

“The Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA , Brigadier General Muhammed Buba Marwa ( Retd ) CON, OFR , charged compatriots across the country to sustain the heat on drug cartels in Nigeria while balancing their efforts on supply reduction and drug demand reduction activities.”
