A 200 level student of the Department of Philosophy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Anambra State has been shot dead by robbers.

Identified simply as Daniel, he was reportedly killed by the robbers on Sunday evening who raided their hostel at lfite-Awka lodge.

In protest of the killing, the students on Monday (January 9) took to the streets, ventilating their anger over the death.

The students, who lamented incessant robbery attacks on them, demanded justice for their late colleague.

The deceased student was trying to retrieve his sim from his phone when they shot him

“After surrendering his phone to the robbers, Daniel requested for his Sim card which the robbers agreed to give to him.

“Holding an already corked gun, the robber was struggling to remove a phone on a tight pack to give Daniel’s Sim and he mistakenly pulled the trigger.

In the process, he was shot in the stomach. He was quickly rushed to the hospital, but sadly gave up the ghost due to the excess loss of blood,” a source said.

Confirming the incident, the State Police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said: “I got this unfortunate information from the Unizik SUG president, yesternight. Police patrol has been on since then. I urge the witness of the incident to help us with information to investigate, please.”
