In a bid to stave off contempt charge, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action.

The decision to suspend the strike was taken at the end of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which was held from Thursday night, October 13 into the early hours of Friday, October 14, at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja.

The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling ordering the striking lecturers to resume.

Persecondnews reports that the court had ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work with immediate effect.

On February 14, 2022, ASUU had embarked on strike due to the failure of the federal government to meet its demands as agreed.
