Mayhem in Badagry over killing of bus conductor by herdsmen

A tumultuous disturbance reigned in Badagry, Lagos State on Monday following the killing of a commercial bus conductor by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The 30-year-old conductor was allegedly hacked to death for killing two of their cows in Age-Mowo in the area.

Persecondnews learnt that the tragic incident which occurred about 6:30a.m at Age-Mowo and Agogo-Igbala in Badagry when the driver of a J5 commercial bus marked FKJ 756 XH en route to Badagry from Mile 2 hit two cows which suddenly crossed the expressway.

 

 

“The driver of the bus hit the cows which were left unconscious. Fulani herdsmen emerged from their Agbo Malu area where the are living, three of them came out and started pursuing the driver of the bus.

“The driver managed to escape unhurt while the bus conductor who was still in the bus was caught by the herdsmen.

“The conductor was beaten by the herdsmen who first removed his clothes. He was left in unconscious state believing that he has given up the ghost.

“Few minutes later, he managed to get up and rushed to the nearest Police station in Mowo to hide for the fear of being killed.

“They pursued and caught up with him a few meters to Mowo Police station where he was beaten to death,” a dependable source said.

Witnesses and residents had mobilized to the scene to avenge the death of the conductor but for the presence of soldiers from the 243 Recce-Batallion Barracks, Ibereko, Badagry, officials of Department of State Security and the N Police.

A witness (names withheld) expressed surprise that the bus conductor could not be rescued in spite of the presence of security personnel at nearby check points.

Meanwhile, youths in Badagry who are seeking for justice refused to allow Police to take the remains of the conductor to mortuary until the arrival of Col. M A ABBA, the Commanding Officer of 243 Recce-Batallion Barracks.

The commanding officer appealed to the youths and members of the communities and assured them justice would be served.

He ordered that the corpse of the conductor be taken and deposited in General Hospital in Badagry for further investigation.

 

 

However, Police said they have arrested two of the herdsmen that killed the conductor and taken to Mowo Police station.

Confirming the incident, Lagos Police Command spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said:”Two herdsmen who allegedly killed the bus conductor have been arrested.”

He said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal and Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for investigations.
