NNPC pipeline vandals got more than they bargained for as their oil theft business was busted by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos.
A tanker laden with 30,000 litres of petrol was impounded at Iyana-Odo in Alimosho area of the state.
Persecondnews reports that the operatives who were on patrol at the lyana-Odo in Alimosho Local Government Area about 3.35 a.m. on Saturday busted the pipeline vandals in the creeks.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Command, Oluwaseun Abolurin, an Assistant Superintendent, said the vandals had loaded a 30,000-litre truck with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) when his men got information from community-based Intelligence Network.
“The suspected vandals took to their heels having sighted our anti-vandals unit on patrol at the Iyana – Odo axis and others from the state command.
“The NSCDC Commandant in Lagos State, Commandant Kolawole Ayeni led a team of officers to the scene and brought the truck and other exhibits to the State Command Headquarters,” he said.
Ayeni has ordered further investigation into the incident while promising that those behind the economic sabotage would be brought to book.
He warned those vandalizing pipelines and other critical infrastructure to relocate from Lagos State or face the wrath of the law.
