….such step would not solve the nation’s security problems

Former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Gov. Aminu Masari, has kicked against the call by the House for President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in the nation’s security sector.

Masari, who rules Buhari’s home state — Kastina, spoke less than 48 hours after the representatives moved a motion calling on Buhari to intervene and declare a state of emergency on security following the recent taking over of 42 communities in Niger State by Boko Haram.

Masari said such step would not solve the nation’s security problems.

He was speaking to State House correspondents on Thursday after meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“The military are already overstretched hence declaration a state of emergency will be stretching them the more.”

Urging Nigerians to stop politicizing security issues, Masari said:”Policing the nation at this critical time was everybody’s business.”
