In defiance of the lockdown order to curtail COVID-19 in Lagos State, two teenagers have reportedly drowned in a community beach in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos.

The deceased whose names were given as Dare, 16, and Fawas, 15, had escaped from their homes in Epelemeje-Orofun community in Akodo, Ibeju-lekki, to explore the beach apparently to “kill the boredom’’ of lockdown.

The grief-stricken community immediately mobilized to recover their bodies from the beach on Saturday while it also notified the police.

The Police said they received a distress call that Dare and Fawas allegedly got drowned while playing in the community beach.

“The command has deployed its Marine Police Team to the area on search and rescue operations.

“The command advised parents to monitor their children and ensure that they remain at home during this lockdown period,” the state command’s spokesman, DSP Bala  Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday.
