The senatorial candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), for Imo North Senatorial District in the 2019 general election, Chief Ndubuisi Emenike, was mistakenly shot dead on Sunday evening by his personal security aide, an operative of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

According to reports, the billionaire philanthropist popularly known as Ototonwa, met his death during a victory party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Miriam Onuoha, who was announced as the winner of the rerun election for the Okigwe North Federal Constituency, which held on Saturday.

The tragedy struck at Onuoha’s house, in Umunachi Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

The NSCDC officer had escorted Ototonwa to the victory party and was shooting sporadically into the air, when he mistakenly shot his boss at the lower abdomen.

The victim was reported to have fallen and lost consciousness, and immediately rushed to St Joseph’s Hospital, Umunachi, before he was later rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Owerri, where he was pronounced dead.

Speaking on the incidence, the Imo State police spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu, said the incident had been reported to the police, adding that the command would speak on the incident once it had finished gathering the facts.
