All within 48 hours, President Muhammadu Buhari has overruled the executive orders given by the newly appointed Minister of Power, Alhaji Sale Mamman, suspending and dismissing two Managing Directors in the parastatal agencies under his ministry.

The latest is the reversal of the dismissal of Marilyn Amobi, the Managing Director of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company Limited (NBET).
Persecondnews recalls that on Tuesday, December 7, Buhari had overruled the minister on the suspension of Mrs Damilola Ogunbiyi, the Managing Director of Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

Just before her suspension, Ogunbiyi, first female MD of the REA, had tendered her resignation to take up a job as the UN Special Representative for Sustainable Energy and CEO of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforAll).
The president reversed her suspension and also accepted her resignation.

The wave of reversal was contained in a memo from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha. In the case of Amobi, the Minister had in December 2019, asked her to step down with immediate effect in order to “restore sanity” in the management of the agency.

The minister also directed the constitution of a five-man investigative committee to look into the allegations against Amobi.

Mr Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, a General Manager of the agency, immediately assumed office as the acting Managing Director of NBET.

But by the President’s counter directive, th agency has been moved from the Ministry of Power to the Ministry of Finance with immediate effect.
