Bayelsa Nov. 16 gov. poll: APC candidate, Lyon, disqualified

743

Three days to the Nov. 16 Bayelsa governorship elections, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Lyon, has been disqualified by the court.

The Federal High Court in Yenagoa ruled that the party has no governorship candidate in the elections coming up on Saturday.

Reason: The court said the governorship primary conducted by APC in Bayelsa was not done in compliance with the party’s guidelines and constitution.

Mr Heineken Lokpobiri and others had challenged the primary in court, seeking a nullification of the party’s internal election that produced Lyon as it violated its constitution.

APC had on Tuesday held a mega rally in Yenagoa where Lyon and his deputy were handed the party’s flag by the National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole.
