Africa Nations Cup : Nigeria overwhelm South Africa to reach last four

785

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana suffered Africa Cup of Nations heartbreak as they slipped to a last-gasp defeat against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the last eight on Wednesday night.

Samuel Chukwueze broke the deadlock in the 27th minute but Bongani Zungu’s header in the 71st minute, after a VAR review, drew the teams level.

William Ekong’s 90th-minute winner dealt the cruelest blow to Stuart Baxter’s side, who had fought back to level in an even contest at Cairo’s International Stadium.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr admitted that his side was lucky to get a last minute goal.
