Airport officials briefly closed one arrival terminal at the newly completed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after a fire sparked by a system malfunction forced authorities to evacuate passengers and staff, Per Second News gathered Saturday.
There were no injuries in the incident, “All passengers and staff at the terminal were evacuated safely and the fire contained by the airport’s fire team,” said an official.
Passengers complained that during the incident only one exit route was opened causing pandemonium and chaos. The incident shows that there is no safety standards at the airport, said Mr Luke Eboma who was at the terminal when the incident occurred.
The fire incident started while Emirates airline was just about to land forcing the airline to use the old terminal, while Hajara Musa, the terminal manager tried to cover up emergency violations noticed at the airport during the incident.
