On Tuesday, the anniversary of a Nigerian woman Chiamaka Glory De Freitas, who died as a result of alleged medical malpractice at a Lagos hospital during childbirth, her husband Arlindo De Freitas, sent out a plea and an emotional message to his late wife.

” My every moment reminds me of you, your smile, your touch, your presence everything. Now I know that my world is around you. Miss you until we meet again, Arlindo said on his two-year-anniversary.

” I do not need thousand of words to say how much I love you and I just let you know that I miss you with my heart. There is hardly a second I spend without your thoughts. My missing you is not in vain.I miss you the way you love me, I miss you the way you brought smiles to my face. I miss you for everything, I miss you the way you shared my pain….you filled all my days with great inspiration, Like a song from an angel..with so much joy and devotion.

” To described your beauty.. Your whole being and love, that captures my heart, all my words are not enough.
Will always love you, he concluded.

Recall that Per Second News in an exclusive report in March, 2017, revealed that Mr Arlindo Defreitas, a Portuguese, had claimed that the Mart hospital in Ikeja, Lagos,  forced his late wife to undergo a caesarean section and another surgery within a 24 hour period.

Speaking with this newspaper in 2017, he said that after being delivered of a baby boy on March 24, 2017, Chiamaka Defreitas, an Imo State indigene started bleeding due to some complications from the C-section.

He said the victim died on Sunday, March 26, after bleeding for about 15 hours. ” I said why can’t you use ultrasonic Tools and scans to see what’s going on, instead of cutting her open again and allowing her lose more blood which already is a problem”.

“By the time I got to the hospital, they already cut her open for the second surgery, they opened her thorax from under the breast down – and finally, they found nothing after 4 hours of operation.”

“When I entered the theater all her organs were scattered around, I couldn’t look, it was like the work of a butcher.” I told the doctor my wife is not a cow, he said.

Arlindo said his wife, Amaka, 24, showed no signs of distress in the weeks following up to the c-section.

“I was an emotional wreck by this point.” I never gave consent for the second surgery, nobody in my wife’s family did, Arlindo told Per Second News at the time.

“The bleeding was so much that the bag connected to the bladder through the catheter, which I believe is about 250ml, got full every two to three hours. I believe this was not normal.

“They allowed my wife to bleed to death, against all my complains and begging to transfer her to Reddington Hospital, where there is a CT scan, and with a CT scan, you can see where the blood is coming from. “They cut the bladder and tried to sow it with four stiches, so ignorant that they don’t know that a mussel can’t be repaired with stiches, but through sealing.

“I have nothing against the medical director, but the doctor in charge of my wife’s case butchered my wife to death. “I have evidence that proved that the said doctor have had similar cases years back in Festac Town (Lagos), where he worked before. Yet, he is still operating.

Speaking with Per Second News Dr Tiffany Jones, a US based obstetrician, said the case of the late Amaka Defreitas, is both pathetic and curious, wondering the rationale for making her go under the knife within 24 hours after the C-Section. She said the most common reason women die during C-sections is bleeding.

Bleeding can be fast and severe and by the time any medical protocol can be instituted, sometimes it’s just too late.” That is why I believe the second surgery was not necessary”.

“Other C-section complications include bladder injury, infection, bowel injuries and blood clots, which can sometimes result in pulmonary embolisms. A pulmonary embolism is a potentially fatal blockage of the main artery of the lung by a substance that has traveled from somewhere else in the body.”
