National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, angrily accused the national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, of orchestrating a plot to sabotage reconciliation efforts of the party.
Citing several evidences to support his explosive allegation, Tinubu alleged that the chairman is acting in a capricious manner, TheCable is reporting.
Tinubu said Odigie-Oyegun apparently seeks “to undermine my mandate by engaging in dilatory tactics for the most part. When forced to act, you do so in an arbitrary and capricious manner”.
“Disappointment greeted me when I discovered that you had swiftly acted in contravention of the spirit of our discussions. Instead of being a bulwark of support as promised, you positioned yourself in active opposition to the goal of resuscitating the progressive and democratic nature of APC”.
Tinubu also accused Odigie-Oyegun of thwarting his presidential assignment in Kogi, Kaduna and Adamawa states.
He noted, specifically, that Odigie-Oyegun had rushed to Kogi without due consultation with him to unilaterally inaugurate officials “parallel to the officials already heading the state chapter of the party”.
He directed Odigie-Oyegun to, without delay, “make available to me the status reports and all the pertinent information regarding the state chapters without further delay”.
President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed Tinubu to reconcile aggrieved members of the APC.
Tinubu has been feuding with the APC chairman since the Ondo governorship primaries that produced Rotimi Akeredolu as the candidate of the party.
Last year, Mr. Tinubu accused Mr. Odigie-Oyegun of going behind the back of members of the National Working Committee to nominate Akeredolu for the governorship election in Ondo state.
An Appeal Committee of the party had recommended that fresh primary election for Ondo State should be conducted after the exercise that produced Mr. Akeredolu was allegedly rigged. The APC leader asked the party chairman to resign.
Mr. Odigie-Oyegun refused to resign and told Mr. Tinubu that he cannot use the media to remove him.
The APC ascendancy is riddled with asterisks. The party’s control of government and the national assembly has only exposed deep and bitter divisions.
The internal bloodletting is at least as fierce, though perhaps less public, according to a party chieftain who spoke candidly to Per Second News under the condition of anonymity.
