IREP, Friends Others Celebrate Emeka Mba At 50

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]REP, friends and colleagues on Monday gathered at the Southern Sun hotel, Ikoyi,  to celebrate Emeka Mba at 50  for his many years of contributing to the media, entertainment and film industry.

Femi Odugbemi kicked off the proceedings, saying that it’s not just about age, but about the life he’s lived and what Emeka Mba has accomplished in the industry, at an informal session to reflect on the evolving broadcast landscape with the theme: “Discussions Around Content And The Digital Age.”

 

The event was hosted by IREP, an organization conceptualized to create platform of awareness and expression for aspiring and practicing filmmakers who are creating socially relevant documentary films to positively impact our world.

Ilemakin Soyinka, a media consultant and director at IREP reflected on the generosity of Mba, who is famous for his charitable giving to the industry.

Emeka Mba, has over 25 years’ cross functional experience in the converged fields of media & broadcasting, communications technology, and regulatory policy management.

Mba, as Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), brought developmental changes to the commission, took the agency to extra heights due to his experience and competence .

He was also responsible for the development of local programming policy, and helped conceive and facilitate the launch of the continent’s first satellite movie channel “AfricaMagic” on the DStv bouquet. Prior to launching AfricaMagic, he operated and managed the technical and programming aspects of the Multichoice Nigeria MMDS cable platform in several cities across Nigeria.

As DG he commenced the process to move electronic media industry from analogue to digital broadcasting.

Guests included Obi Asika, Lekan Ogunbanwo, Jahman Anikulapo, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, John Ugbe, managing director MultiChoice Nigeria and many industry experts.
