I Feel 18 at 83, Says Iya Rainbow as She Gears Up for Double Celebration

Veteran Nollywood actress, Idowu Phillips, popularly known as Iya Rainbow, is preparing for a double celebration as she marks her 83rd birthday and 60 years on stage.

The screen icon, who began her career under the tutelage of the late theatre legend Hubert Ogunde, described her journey in the entertainment industry as one filled with grace, hard work and divine favour.

“What a journey it has been,” she said ahead of the celebration.

“I’m grateful for the grace of God upon my life, for the dedication that has kept me on stage, and for the love and support I’ve enjoyed from fans, friends and colleagues over the years. I feel 18 at 83.”

Iya Rainbow, has remained one of the most respected and consistent actresses in the Nigerian film industry.

Her career, which started on stage in the early 1960s, has seen her feature in hundreds of productions spanning theatre, television and film.

Known for her motherly roles and vibrant personality, she has become a household name and a mentor to many younger actors.

Over the years, she has earned recognition for her contributions to the growth of the Yoruba movie industry and her ability to connect deeply with audiences across generations.

Preparations are already underway for the double celebration, which is expected to attract family, friends, fans and industry colleagues who have shared in her remarkable journey.

Despite her age, Iya Rainbow continues to feature in movies and public appearances, maintaining her place as one of the enduring figures in Nollywood.
