Atalanta’s new head coach, Raffaele Palladino, has sent a clear message to Ademola Lookman and the rest of the squad, saying he is committed to rebuilding the team around its talented players.

The Italian tactician, who replaced Ivan Juric, reiterated Lookman’s importance, saying, “Lookman is crucial. I called him, as well as all the others who were on national team duty”.

Palladino’s comments come amid speculation about Lookman’s future, with top clubs like Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Atletico Madrid, and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly interested in the Nigerian winger.

The 28-year-old had pushed for an exit this summer, even attempting to join Inter Milan, but Atalanta’s asking price scrapped the deal.

Palladino aims to change the narrative, saying, “He presented himself very well. I’ll evaluate his role based on how he performs in training.”

The new coach faces a tough challenge, with Atalanta currently 13th in Serie A, having managed just two wins this season.

Palladino is determined to instill a fighting spirit, adding, “I think this city deserves to have a team that battles for every ball, reflecting the spirit of the citizens of Bergamo”.

Atalanta’s next test is Saturday’s clash with Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, a match that could set the tone for Palladino’s tenure.
