Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, is currently buzzing with anticipation as it prepares to host the inaugural West African Para Games (Zones A & B) from November 26 to December 4, 2025.

With just a week remaining, the National Sports Commission (NSC) confirms all preparations are complete for a spectacular event, which will showcase para athletic talent from across the region, Persecondnews reports.

This competition, an initiative of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aims to establish Nigeria as a hub for international para sports under the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE).

NSC officials report significant progress in preparations, including accommodation, transportation, and venue readiness, ensuring a seamless experience for athletes and spectators alike.

Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN) President, Sunday Odebode, praised the NSC’s efforts, stating, “These Games represent a new dawn for para sports in West Africa.

“We are confident that Nigeria will set a benchmark for future editions.”

Odebode expressed optimism that the event will foster regional cooperation and create opportunities for para athletes.

Key operational departments are in advanced stages of preparation, with a focus on medical services, accreditation, media operations, security, and volunteer mobilization.

The event promises to showcase athletic excellence, Ogun State’s hospitality, and Nigeria’s organizational prowess.

Persecondnews recalls that Ogun had
in May 2025 hosted the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), setting a national standard.
