Seplat Energy Plc, a Nigerian independent energy company, reaffirmed its commitment to media excellence and professional empowerment by hosting its 2025 Annual Media Training Programme in Abuja.
The two-day event provided 50 journalists with hands-on learning sessions that focused on entrepreneurship, personal development, and adaptability within the evolving media landscape.
According to Joycelyn E. Adah, Digital Content Editor at Per Second News and a participant, the programme specifically aimed to help media professionals explore business opportunities, develop essential entrepreneurial skills, and plan for sustainable post-retirement ventures.
The 2025 training programme delivered a powerful blend of thought leadership and practical skill-building, fostering an environment centered on innovation and resilience.
Renowned political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, delivered a keynote titled “Can Managers or Professionals (such as Journalists) Make Good Entrepreneurs?”
He sharply distinguished between managerial and entrepreneurial mindsets, defining entrepreneurship as a “quantum leap in value creation.”
This theme was reinforced by entrepreneur and lawyer Uloma Okoro, who guided participants through “Developing a Business Model and Writing a Winning Business Plan.”


She stressed the necessity of testing new ideas, embracing continuous learning, and viewing entrepreneurship as a growth process.
Dr. Solomon Avbioroko, former Director at Lagos Business School, led discussions on “Ego States Profile” and “Second Phase of Life: Overcoming the Phobia.”
He urged journalists to see retirement not as an end, but as a chance to reinvent themselves and pursue new passions.
In the digital realm, expert Abiola Adedeji explored “Understanding Digital Marketing with a Focus on Customer Journey Mapping.”
He highlighted the urgent need for media professionals to adopt digital tools to enhance audience engagement and storytelling.
Seasoned trainer Olu Onakoya and multimedia producer Nnamdi Uwaemelulam led practical sessions focusing on crucial topics like financial intelligence, venture financing, and emerging media technologies.
Their core message emphasized the importance of innovation and adaptability in the fast-changing media world.
Representing Seplat Energy, Corporate Communications Manager Stanley Opara reiterated the company’s dedication to empowering the media sector.
He commended the participants for their commitment to self-development and affirmed Seplat Energy’s continued collaboration with the Nigerian media.
