Abuja Lady’s Death: FCT Police Nab Two ‘One Chance’ Suspects

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has arrested two suspected members of a “one-chance” robbery syndicate linked to the death of 23-year-old Miss Grace Godwin in Abuja.

The suspects, Kabiru Abdullahi (25) and Solomon Tanko (35), were apprehended by the command’s Scorpion Squad following an investigation into the incident.

The tragedy occurred on July 11, 2025.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement sent to Persecondnews on Tuesday, October 28, Godwin, a fuel-pump attendant, boarded a commercial vehicle operated by the criminal gang while she was returning home from work.

A day later, Adeh said, her unconscious body was discovered along Iya Abubakar Street, Life Camp, and rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The statement partly read: “On July 12, 2025, the command received a distress report that the unconscious body of a young woman was discovered by the roadside along Iya Abubakar Street, Life Camp.

“Police operatives swiftly responded to the scene, and the victim, later identified as Miss Grace Godwin, was evacuated to the hospital, where she was sadly confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, who worked as a fuel-pump attendant, had closed from work on July 11, 2025, and unknowingly boarded a vehicle operated by a ‘one chance’ robbery syndicate.

“With the aid of digital reconstructive intelligence, operatives traced and arrested two members of the gang, identified as Kabiru Abdullahi, male, 25 years old, and Solomon Tanko, male, 35 years old.”

According to Adeh, the investigation uncovered that the victim knew her assailants, recognizing some of the gang members as residents of her Dape community.

During the robbery, the suspects reportedly attempted to silence her.

After she bit Abdullahi’s finger while trying to defend herself, he allegedly strangled her with a plastic nylon bag.

“Further investigations revealed that during the robbery, the victim recognised some of the gang members, who were residents of the same Dape community where she lived.

“In a struggle that ensued, Kabiru Abdullahi strangled her with a plastic nylon bag after she bit his finger in self-defence.

“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one golden-coloured Toyota Camry (popularly known as ‘Pencil Light’) and plastic nylon bags used in committing the crime,” she said.

Adeh added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.
