Liverpool’s five-game winning streak in the Premier League came to an end with a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles dominated the opening stages, taking the lead through Ismaila Sarr’s goal from a corner.

Despite Alisson’s stunning saves, Liverpool struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half.

Arne Slot, Liverpool’s manager, hinted at a defensive error that led to the late winner.

“One of our players ran out because he wanted to play a counter-attack, which was of no use because time was up, so it was only about defending,” Slot said.

“One player was too offensively minded in that moment, which led to them scoring the winner and us losing the game.”

The player in question appears to be Jeremie Frimpong, who came on as a substitute in the 74th minute and seemed to lose track of Eddie Nketiah, allowing him to score the winning goal.

Slot praised Palace, saying they deserved to win the game.

“Credit to Palace – with the Community Shield it’s not the first time we’ve lost to them. They deserved to be two or three up in the first half.

“The second half was much better from us, we created chances which not many teams do here.”

Palace’s victory was sealed when Nketiah scored in the 97th minute, capitalizing on a defensive mistake.

Slot also expressed concerns about Liverpool’s set piece defense, which has been an issue in recent games.

“If you want to compete and want to be right up there, you need a very positive balance in set pieces. That is what I always say, for years, and in this league that is probably even more the situation.”

Liverpool conceded both goals in the game from set pieces, with Sarr’s opener coming from a corner.
