The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

This announcement was made in a statement on Wednesday by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The government urged Muslims to reflect on the Prophet’s core values of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, believing these virtues are vital for fostering a united and prosperous nation.

“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the statement said.

The Minister also called on Nigerians of all faiths to use this occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country and support government’s efforts toward national harmony and sustainable development.

The government appealed to citizens to remain law-abiding and security-conscious while celebrating the holiday.

Persecondnews reports that Eid-ul-Mawlid is observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi’ al-Awwal, and is marked with prayers, lectures, processions, and acts of charity.
